This is a review of a
service or product that I have used. My review reflects my own experiences, which may or
may not be consistent with the experiences of others. If you find factual errors in my
review, email me with specifics immediately. Thanks.
PROVIDER: Investment Reference
PRODUCT/SERVICE: Consultation and assistance for brokers and others
WHERE?: http://www.irfutures.com/
RATING: 5 fish
Investment Reference will get as many fish as I can give away. On a scale... never
mind... of zero to 1000 fish, the company is batting 1000.
The company offers services to brokers and brokerages. Unless you're considering joining
the business as a broker or starting a brokerage, CTA or CPO of your own, you probably
won't have a reason to use Investment Reference. But if you do fall into one of those
categories, you're in good hands there.
The company provides a Series 3 test prep class, which includes a two day weekend
classroom session plus two large and comprehensive volumes of test questions that are
nearly or exactly the same as those found on the actual Series 3 test. IR also provides
help in setting up CTA disclosure documents, NFA-style compliance audits to catch problems
before the NFA does, help with the bureaucracy of setting up an IB, FCM, CTA or CPO, and
is a resource for information on just about any aspect of the business.
The company is run by (and services are provided by) Dennis Stahr, who is an absolute gem.
He combines years of experience in different aspects of the futures business with a shrewd
perception, a very sensitive B.S. filter, and an excellent sense of humor. I took his
Series 3 prep class, and actually enjoyed sitting in his classroom for two days. Anyone
who has known me for a long time knows how unusual this is; normally, I HATE to sit at a
desk and be spoon-fed information at somebody else's pace. I've had occasional contact
with him beyond the class, and have found his advice and assistance to be timely,
invaluable and on-target. I don't think I could have gotten Defender Capital off the
ground with anywhere near the speed and confidence that I experienced if I hadn't had his
help.
If you have any business needs or questions, Investment Reference is THE place to go for
help.
Thanks for reading.
Jonathan Matte of Defender Capital Management, Inc., has done several reviews, and is well represented on the
news groups involving investments. He has answered many questions for potential investors,
and has other claims to fame that you can check out at his site by clicking on his
name. Even as he contemplated entering the business he gave me a real run for my
money with questions of legalities and ethics. You can find one of his letters in
the FAQs to 6-30-97 page; search on
Jonathan. He is a good representative for the business, and thank him for the kind
words. I know, I know, enough with the pats-on-the-back!
